Can you smell it? That brisk, crisp, scent with perhaps a hint of pumpkin spice? Can you catch a whiff of the changing leaves, cooler temperatures, and spicy candles? It’s the scent of changing seasons, the scent of fall finally having arrived. We may be waxing poetic a bit here, but boy do we love fall. It’s the time of year when we all get to cozy up inside and prepare our homes to be our oasis from the cold, dreary winter months of the pacific northwest. We want you to make the most of this fall season, so here are our favorite tips on how to cozy up.
Decorate for fall
This one may be all in our heads, but we sure feel like having a home filled with warm colors and cozy blankets ups the cozy factor at LEAST 20%. We know everyone has their own styles so we’ll leave the interior designing to you, but we do know that Wolcott red looks awfully good on us, so we’d bet it will look good on you and your home too.
Insulate your pipes
The coziness shouldn’t just stop at your interiors, make sure your pipes are cozy too! In our opinion there’s nothing less cozy than a frozen pipe. Exposed pipes, pipes that travel through exterior walls, and pipes in attics and crawl spaces are all susceptible to freezing and then breaking. To avoid this costly repair headache we recommend insulating your pipes, one of the simplest ways to do this is wrapping them in foam sleeves, but our plumbers are always glad to take a look at the plumbing in your home and make a recommendation just for you.
Make some tasty food
Beyond decor we think that the best way to get into the cozy fall mood is with some delicious fall food. Try your hand at a fresh from the oven pie, some steaming soups, or a batch of still soft cookies. We recommend all of the above! If you don’t have the time to whip up the fall food of your dreams just take a look around your neighborhood. Shop any of the tasty bakeries or restaurants in Portland to support a local business and get some fall cheer. And don’t forget your favorite pumpkin flavored coffee while you’re at it!
Get your furnace maintenance scheduled
Last, but definitely not least, stay cozy by getting your furnace maintenance scheduled. You might have noticed a theme here of how warm = cozy, and there isn’t much of a chance for the toasty warmth of your home without a working furnace! A furnace tune-up can save you a ton of money by preventing the need for costly repairs from a breakdown and lengthening the lifespan of your furnace. Plus, if your furnace does happen to have an issue, you may need to prove that you have been getting regular maintenance to take advantage of its warranty. A tune-up can even help you to immediately save on your electricity bills because a tuned-up furnace is a more energy efficient furnace!
